The rival detectives agreed on one thing: by stealing the prism,
they could upstage the cantankerous Alan Corwin, and thus steal any
potential clients who would be impressed by his efforts to guard
the gem. In doing this, they could prove him to be the dork they
thought he was, and, perhaps, earn the right to protect the gem,
as a freebee, of course. Anyway, with all of them combined, working
as one, they were certain to finally be rid of narrow, pointed-nose
detective and his pesky little be-spectacled sidekick.
     However, Alan could not guard the gem 24 hours a day. There-
fore, he enlisted the help of his old army buddy, Jack 'Hammer' Patton. Not only was the formidable hulk a former Green Beret,  Marine, test pilot for the Aliasville Municipal Park new roller coaster, but the man was as big as two city buses. Indeed, to steal the Fulsome Prism during his watch would take some doing!
